Changes in online purchases in Europe

You need to understand some of the changes in the way you shop online.

From September 14, 2019, people living in the European Economic Area may need to pass additional banking security checks at the time of purchase. This is due to the introduction of the Payment Service Directive (PSD2).

PSD2 is designed to make online spending and managing funds safer. The new rules for secure client authentication checks mean that sometimes when you make a purchase, you need to verify it in any of three ways:

The user who provided the information, such as a password or password

Verified by your own devices, such as a smartphone or USB key

Biometric verification, such as fingerprinting or speech recognition

Banks need to decide which method to use - this is beyond our control. In most cases, your bank will conduct its own background security checks, which means you don't need to take any other action.
